DC Volunteer Advocates help address client children's basic
needs for a safe and secure home, necessary healthcare, appropriate
educational services, and enrichment activities.
In addition, Advocates teach and model constructive alternatives of
behavior while establishing relationships of trust with their client
children. Such relationships enable children to stay away from high risk
behaviors such as truancy, pregnancy, delinquency, dropping out of school, gangs,
and substance abuse.
The advocacy and mentorship roles of DC Volunteer Advocates comprise a
unique strategy for addressing and improving client children's quality
of life and prospects for positive and productive
citizenship.
